Ogun govt hands over freed OOU students to parents

The government of Ogun State on Wednesday evening handed over two abducted students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ayetoro Campus, Adeyemo Precious and Oyefule Abiola who regained their freedom on Tuesday through the combined efforts of the Nigeria Police to their parents.
Adeyemo Precious and Oyefule Abiola studying Forestry and Wildlife Management and Agricultural Economics respectively were abducted by some gunmen around 9pm on Sunday at Igbole Aibo Quarters, Ayetoro, headquarters of Yewa North local government area of the state.
Speaking at a press conference held the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Waheed Odusile disclosed that the rescue of the students within 48 hours of their abduction confirmed the commitment of the governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun towards security of lives and properties of the residents of the state.
Alhaji Odusile said that the governor was indeed very concerned since the news of the abducted students filtered to town and indeed had sleepless nights coordinating the rescue of the students from the situation room.
In attendance at the press conference were also the Commissioner for Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker and the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Kunle Somorin among others.
While thanking the Nigeria Police and other security agencies that combined efforts to get the students released, the Commissioner said that the state government did also not pay any ransom to get the students released.
He said every other information surrounding how and where the students were released lies with the security agencies and might make it public when deemed convenient.
Alhaji Odusile said that the essence of the press conference was to present the rescued students to the members of the public to lend credence to the fact that truly the students had regained their freedom.
He said that Gov. Dapo Abiodun had also ordered security to be beefed up across all the schools in the state while everyone should also take responsibility and be more security conscious in all that they do.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker while speaking during the press briefing said that the rescued students are in good health except for some bruises which they have on their bodies and have been to the state hospital for antitetanus injection and medical treatment.
Earlier, students of Olabisi Onabanjo University in their scores visited the Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta to register their appreciation for the prompt rescue of the two female students.
In their separate remarks, the President of National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), Comrade Oluwasegun Alao and the Chairman of National Association of Nigeria Students, (NANS), Ogun State chapter, Comrade Kehinde Damilola lauded the Governor for providing a responsible leadership in the State.
