Ogun govt expresses displeasure over killings by Customs

The Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi has expressed displeasure over the spate of extra judicial killings by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, reiterating that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration would evolve more strategies, towards averting the recurring loss of lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
One Lekan, a driver was said to have been allegedly shot dead on Tuesday morning at Orile Imo along Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu by combined team of Federal Operating Unit, Zone A of Nigeria Customs Service during face-off with some alleged smugglers who had resisted attempt by the Customs officers to move six seized vehicles loaded with parboiled foreign rice to their warehouse.
Talabi said this while addressing the aggrieved youths who stormed the Governor’s office complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta to protest against the loss of life and various degrees of injury, inflicted on their colleagues during the face-off with Customs.
According to him “the government of Ogun State sympathises with the dead and those in the hospital as a result of the encounter with Customs officers on the Abeokuta-Sagamu interchange road.
It is our concern, and we are resolute towards ensuring the safety and welfare of both citizens and residents alike, and we assure you that we will source for information that will allow us to be abreast of what really happened”.
