Ogun generates N1.5bn in 10 months — Education Ministry

The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has reported generating a total of N1.5 billion between January and October 2024.

This was disclosed by the state’s Education Commissioner, Abayomi Arigbabu, during the ministry’s presentation of its 2025 budget proposal to the Ogun State House of Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Appropriation in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

According to Arigbabu, the ministry has earmarked a total of N59.4 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, with N24.7 billion allocated for recurrent expenditure and N34.7 billion set aside for capital projects.

The commissioner emphasised that the budget proposal reflects the state government’s commitment to improving the educational sector through various initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education and expanding infrastructure.

Arigbabu outlined that the ministry’s revenue generation for 2025 is expected to rise to N2.5 billion.

This will come from various sources, including private school licences, inspection fees, school/tuition/examination fees, and renewals. Other revenue streams will include the sale of application forms, bills of entry, and earnings from the use of government facilities such as halls.

“The state government has also committed to purchasing educational and vocational equipment to strengthen the learning environment, and we are focused on expanding school infrastructure, as there is a need to address the growing demand for quality education in Ogun State,” Arigbabu said.

The commissioner also revealed plans for extensive construction work in schools, with a view to increasing the number of educational facilities in the state and addressing challenges related to overcrowding.
