Ogun: Five men docked for alleged burglary, stealing

Five men were on Thursday docked before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly breaking into two homes to steal phones and other valuables valued at N300,000.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are Mathew Chukwubudo, 18, Favour Oduru, 30, Ganiu Akorede, 26, Courage Johnson, 26 and Asien Endurance, 25.

They are being tried for burglary, conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. E. O. Adaraloye told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on March 2 at Ilogbo area of Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that the defendants conspired to break into the homes of one Shakira Agboola and Odunowo Maxwell to steal four phones, recharge cards, ATM cards and other valuables worth N300,000.

He said that the defendants were allegedly caught by men of the vigilance group and handed over to the police in Ota.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390,411 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi admitted each of the defendants to N200,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

She adjourned the case until March 17 for further hearing.
