Ogun expends over N7.38bn on road construction, rehabilitation in six months

Ogun State Government through the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure says it has so far expended a total of N7.389bn on the various completed and ongoing construction and rehabilitation of roads across the three Senatorial Districts between January and June, 2021.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Akeem Adesina, made the disclosure during the ongoing 2021 budget performance assessment before members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure led by Hon. Abayomi Fasuwa at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Adesina outlined the projects to include Raypower, Navy-Osi-Ikola roads in Ado-Odo/Ota, Fajol-Ajegunle-America Junction-Alogi road and American Junction-Unity Estate road, which cut across Abeokuta South and Odeda Local Government Areas, as well as Ejirin-Mobalufon- Oluwalogbon road in Ijebu Ode and Ilaro-Owode road in Yewa South Local Government Area.

Others are Joju road in Ado-Odo/Ota,  Somorin-Kemta-Idi Aba Road in Odeda, Imasayi-Igan Okoto-Ayetoro Road in Yewa North, sectional rehabilitation of Papalanto-Ilaro road in Ewekoro, palliative works along Sango junction-Ojuore road and the construction of City Gate monument at Sagamu Interchange amongst others.

On his part, the General Manager, State Public Works Agency (OGPWA), Engr. Gbenga Akintola, while presenting  the budget performance report of the agency stated that N110.46m has been expended on the maintenance of roads and bridges in the State within the period under review.

Akintola noted that the maintenance became imperative to reduce accident rate, thereby improving safe motoring  for all categories of road users.

In their remarks, the lawmakers including Fasuwa, Yusuf Adejojo and Ademuyiwa Adeyemi tasked the Ministry and OGPWA to step up measures at giving more priority to linking roads within community and other internal roads.

The lawmakers also encouraged the Ministry to set machineries in motion for effective  monitoring and evaluation of works by contractors handling various projects across the State.
