Ogun Commissioner: Tourism has the potential to rejuvenate Nigeria’s economy
Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Oluwasesan Fagbayi, has stated that Nigeria’s rich cultural and tourism potential could be instrumental in revitalizing the country’s struggling economy.
In a statement on Wednesday during the Ekiti State Festival for Arts and Culture, themed “Arts and Culture: A Tool for Shared Prosperity,” at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, Fagbayi emphasized the need to shift focus from the oil and gas sector to the arts, culture, and tourism for economic growth.
Fagbayi highlighted the importance of harnessing these sectors to generate additional revenue. He noted that Ogun State would continue to promote and utilize its cultural assets, such as Adire fabrics, and work on encouraging foreign and private partnerships in tourism.
He also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for his support in preserving and promoting the state’s culture and traditions. Fagbayi announced plans for the Gateway Festival, which will feature cultural activities from all 20 local government areas, and urged all levels of government and stakeholders to enhance cultural heritage and develop tourist sites to global standards.
