Ogun Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by its Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi on Wednesday received seven members of the state assembly who recently defected from Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to APC.

Receiving the defected lawmakers, Chief Yemi Sanusi charged them to ensure that they take advantage of the party’s ongoing membership registration exercise and go back to their respective wards to obtain the party’s membership card as this is the first step towards normalising their defection.

While saying that it was the primary duties of the party secretariat to ensure that they were formally received and welcomed back into the party, Sanusi further charged the lawmakers to notify the state secretariat in case of any challenge as they are re-integrated into the party.

He thereafter presented the APC constitution and brooms, the party’s symbol to the lawmakers while also admonishing them to continue to support the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led APC administration in the state.

Earlier, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo had formally presented the seven defected lawmakers to the APC Caretaker Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo condemned the rumour mongers, who criticised him for fraternising with members of the opposition parties in the state Assembly, emphasizing that such fraternity with those lawmakers finally paid off as evident in the defection of the APM lawmakers.

He added that the defecting lawmakers have over the period, been supportive of every programme and policy brought to the State Assembly by the Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Oyedeji, who is the former Minority Leader expressed satisfaction at the warm reception accorded them by the Caretaker Committee of the party, noting that even while they were in APM, the state governor, Abiodun ensured inclusiveness of all in his administration.

He emphasised that Abiodun’s action will ginger them to do more towards supporting his vision and mission to pilot the affairs of the state.

He promised that the defecting lawmakers would undoubtedly double their support and cooperation for the ruling party as well as Gov. Abiodun.
