…Arrest two suspected criminals in Ondo masquerading as mentally ill

Ogun State Security Network otherwise known as Amotekun Corps said it has on Tuesday arrested Akinyele Adebayo and Idosu Gbalo for the alleged killing of a herder, Umaru Aliu at Ijagure village along Sagada in Imeko-Afon Local Government area of the state.

According to statement from the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, CP David Akinremi (rtd.) Adebayo, Gbalo and others were said to have committed the dastardly act on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

The statement disclosed further that while the deceased and one Umaru Takake were grazing their cattle in the bush near Ijagure village, one Fagbemi Kareem, still at large allegedly armed with a locally made single barrel gun and accompanied by four other persons, namely: Olorunto Segun, Baba Shele, Lana Ojugbele and Ashipa trailed the herders and caught up with Umaru Aliu.

Aliu was said to have been killed during the ecounter at the farmland belonging to one Chief Ogunlana Fagbemi Alias “Osewuya” at Ijagure village, while Umaru Takake narrowly escaped unhurt.

It was gathered that on the same day at about 8pm, the duo of Olorunto Segun and Baba Shele allegedly contacted one Akinyele Adebayo to assist to dismember the corpse at the scene of crime and he obliged while Baba Shele took away the head of the deceased to unknown destination.

The statement said that thereafter, the remaining parts of the dismembered body of Aliu was packed in a sack and buried in a pit near Oyan River at Oke-Ayo village in Imeko.

Amotekun revealed further that Adebayo, Gbalo and other suspects arrested, during interrogation have admitted their various roles in the dastardly criminal act and took operatives of the corps to the scene where the remaining parts of the body were dumped with several parts missing.

Meanwhile, alleged prime suspects; Fagbemi Kareem and Baba Shele were said to have been arrested by Ojio Police Division, Oyo State for the same offence, while Lana Ojugbele, Olorunto Segun and Ashipa are still at large.

Consequently, the suspects, Adebayo and Gbalo were said to have been transferred to Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further action and prosecution.

The Amotekun Corps Commander, Akinremi has however re-iterated the determination of the Corps to fight all forms of crime and criminality in the state warning criminally minded individual to either have a change of heart or be ready to be crushed as the state will not be a safe haven for them.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps have arrested two suspected criminals who pretend to be mentally ill after committing crimes in the state.

The Commander of Amotekun in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Wednesday while parading 26 suspects involved in various crimes across the state.

While advising residents of the state to be wary of persons claiming to be mentally ill, Adeleye, said the arrested two suspects had been constituting a security risk in the state.

He said one of the suspects who was arrested within the spate of one week had expensive phones on him when he was nabbed.

Adeleye added that the other suspect started feigning mental imbalance after hacking his landlord to death.

“While searching for these mad people, we found expensive phones on them. And we found out that the majority of them only pretended to be mad to gather information in the particular area where they intend to operate.

“We have two of them, one from Idanre and one from Igbara-Oke. It is actually dangerous to accost a madman, anything could happen thereafter. The best thing is to give us timely information and we’ll take it up from there.”

The Amotekun boss also disclosed that 24 other suspected criminals involved in robbery, rape and kidnapping were also arrested by his men.
