No fewer than 228 persons died in various road crashes across Ogun State in the year 2021, the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has said.
TRACE spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday, explained that the deaths occurred in 831 crashes.
Akinbiyi said 713 motor vehicles and 118 motorcycles were involved in the accidents within the 12 months period.
Akinbiyi explained that 1,311 people were injured in the various road accidents, comprising 931 males and 380 females.
He added that 74 persons were killed in motorcycle accidents while 240 were injured.
Reports state that out of the 228 deaths recorded, 179 were males, while 49 were females.
Akinbiyi posited that most of the accidents were caused by excessive speed, wrongful overtaking, dangerous driving among others.
He assured that the Ogun traffic regulatory agency would continue to sensitise motorists on safe driving, saying that there was a need for all road users to obey traffic rules and orders.
