OGSG expresses dissatisfaction over high spate of illegal Monarchs

Ogun State Government has expressed dissatisfaction against the high spate of some people procuring fake appointment letters and parading themselves as Monarch in the society, without following laid down procedures as stipulated by the laws governing the Obaship institution in the state.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who made this known at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, during the 3rd quarterly statutory meeting of Council of Obas, said those involve in such illegal act, did not mean well for the state and traditional institutions, as the present administration would no longer condone such unscrupulous activities.

Governor Abiodun, represented by Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi said, those individuals would not only bring confusion to the state but ridicule the traditional institutions, adding that the present administration would no longer condone such unscrupulous activities.

“We shall not fold our arms and allow a few unscrupulous elements, under our watch, to tarnish the image of our state, rubbish our traditional institutions thereby bringing it to a state of ridicule,” the Governor said.

He assured the traditional rulers of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and well-being, as it did on the recent 50 per cent increment in the monthly subvention of the four traditional councils and much more within the available resources of the state.

In his address, Chairman of the Council, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, appreciated the Governor for the 50 per cent augmentation for the four traditional councils, adding that the issue of security is germane to the royal fathers, urging the government to make adequate provision for the funding of local security outfits in the state.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun said the Ministry has been working assiduously in ensuring the welfare of Monarchs are guaranteed and vacant stools are filled.

He added that the agency had successfully carried out its responsibilities in line with relevant laws and observance of customs, in which the installation of Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo and Negbuwa of Ibido were also part of it.
