OGSG advocates peaceful resolution of communal matters

Ogun State Government has called on the people of Idi-Orogbo, Ibaragun in Ifo Local Government Areas to allow peace reign on the parallel ‘Baaleship’ issues in the community.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape made the call in Abeokuta during a meeting with the parties involved in the dispute, noting that the three ‘Baales’ from the community, Chief Rasheed Oloyede, Chief Kamaldeen Lawal and Chief Kolawole Olore should exercise patience, pending the Ministry’s decision on the ongoing investigation and examination of documents before it.

Afuape assured that the issue would be resolved within the shortest time to pave way for necessary development in the community and warned the ‘Baales’ concerned against giving chieftaincy title to members of the community, while awaiting the decision of the government on the issue, saying it would prevent undue communal crises and civil unrest in Idi-Orogbo, Ibaragun.

On his part, the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaiman Bamgbade appealed to the Ministry to apply necessary part of the Ogun State Chief Laws to address the Ibaragun issue with reference to part 3 sections 2-5 of the law that vested some power on the Commissioner to rule on issues of ‘Baaleship’ authority.

Others present at the meeting were the Chairman, Ifo Local Government, Mrs.  Kikelomo Delano, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr.  Kolawole Fagbohun, the Olojodu of Ojodu Abiodun, Oba Samuel Benson and Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Adesoji Adewuyi.
