Octogenarian in court over alleged N350, 000 fraud in Osun

The Police in Osun on Wednesday arraigned an 80-year-old Octogenarian, Bakare Adeyemi, before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for an alleged fraud of N350, 000.

Adeyemi was alleged to have fraudulently obtained the sum of N350, 000 from one Kazeem Mohammed, with pretence to sell a plot of land to him, which turned out to be false.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of fraud and theft preferred against him.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Abiodun Fagboyibo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2015 at Temidire Atura Quaters, Ido-Osun area, Osun.

Fagboyinbo said the defendant defrauded Mohammed by allegedly collecting the sum of N350, 000 from him with intent to sell a plot of land to him which he had refused to do.

He said the offence committed contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol. 11, laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defense Counsel, Mr Olaoluwa Fawegbewese, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Ishola Omisade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 and two sureties in the like sum.

Omisade said the sureties must reside within the court jurisdictions, with evidence of tax payments and two passports photograph attached with an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned until March 3 for hearing.
