Former Nigerian Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, alongside the former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo attended the 90th birthday celebration of General Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria’s former Head of State.
The dignitaries gathering brought together prominent figures from Nigeria’s past and present to honor Gowon’s legacy.
The event, held at the Ecumenical Centre in Abuja on Saturday was a momentous occasion that saw the convergence of influential leaders including the first lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu.
Speaking during his goodwill message, Jonathan lauded the tremendous achievements of the past Head of State.
Similarly, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo extended heartfelt congratulations to Gowon on his 90th birthday, emphasizing the significance of this milestone.
He stressed that the gesture underscores the respect and admiration for elder statesmen in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The gathering served as a testament to the enduring impact of General Gowon’s tenure and his continued influence on Nigeria’s political landscape.
The first lady, Tinubu described Gowon as an intelligent leader with simplicity by ensuring peace in the country.
Sermon by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Angelican Communion) the most Rev. Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba emphasized that Gowon’s exemplary lifestyle leaves an iconic attitude to leadership.
He said “Our righteousness display in the gospel shows our faithfulness noting that Palm 49 verse 14 says steadfastness goes before you.
“The righteous live by their faith. When you encounter the gospel u will repent of your sins before God, you will forsake ur wicked thoughts and sin . If the gospel is not in ur heart or mind there will be no righteousness.”
The celebrant appreciated the dignitaries and other participants at the event while appealing for peaceful coexistence in the country.
