Obama mum on endorsement of Harris as President, as Biden steps down

Former United States President, Barack Obama has kept mum on the endorsement of Kamala Harris for the President bid on the platform of the Democrats.

Former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of state, Hillary Clinton are some of the leading figures that have endorsed a Kamala Harris Presidency since President Biden stepped down.

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday he is ending his bid for a second term and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

The announcement by Biden comes in the wake of the president’s COVID-19 diagnosis on Wednesday, which prompted more calls from within his own Democratic Party for him to drop out of the race.

“It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

“I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision.”

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President,” he said in a separate post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”.

After Biden faced Trump in the first presidential debate on June 27, Trump in a TruthSocial post on June 29 wrote: “This past Thursday night was a defeat not only for Biden, but for the entire Radical Left Democrat Party and the Fake News Media, who have been lying to the American People as our Country was being destroyed.”

Meanwhile, reacting to the news of Biden’s failed Presidential bid, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Sunday he thinks Vice President Kamala Harris will be easier to defeat in November’s election than Democratic President Joe Biden, who earlier in the day stepped aside as his party’s candidate.

CNN said the Republican former president made the comments to the network shortly after Biden announced his decision. Trump and his campaign later also attacked Biden and Harris on social media while saying Biden was unfit to continue serving as president.
