NYSC tasks youth corps members’ employers on mentorship
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has tasked corps employers
on the need to provide mentorship to members serving in their respective establishments.
The acting Director-General of NYSC, Mrs Christy Uba, gave the charge at the closing of the orientation course for 2022
Batch ‘C’ Stream II of youth corps members deployed to Imo, held at the permanent orientation camp,
Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre Council Area of the state.
Represented by the scheme’s Co-ordinator in Imo, Mrs Rachael Idaewor, Uba said such mentorship would enable the
youth corps members to develop their capacity and potential.
She advised the NYSC members to exhibit commitment, dedication and responsibility, urging them to be good ambassadors
of the scheme, their respective families and institutions of graduation.
She also advised them to undertake personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would
add value to the living standard of their host communities.
She said “mentorship brings out the best in youth corps members and charts the way forward; I urge you to embrace it.
“May I also remind you dear youth corps members that the scheme does not confer immunity on members from legal
consequences and wrongdoing. You must always remain law-abiding and of good conduct.
“However, management remains committed to making adequate provisions for the safety and security of members,
as the scheme is in liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders, with a view to addressing essential
needs in any given service year.”
She affirmed the receipt of impressive reports on the youth corps members’ participation in the entrepreneurial training
of the scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
She urged members to build on the skills acquired in camp by availing themselves further opportunities for post-camp
training, adding that this would go a long way in empowering them to be self-reliant.
