NYSC tasks corps members on skills acquisition in A’Ibom

Youth corps members posted to Akwa Ibom were on Monday advised to take advantage of the skill acquisition programme in the camp seriously to develop themselves.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, gave the advice at the swearing-in of the 2021 Batch “A” stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai.

Ekwe noted that the current situation in the country would not encourage any graduate to finish school and remain idle without having any skill.

She charged corps members to take maximum advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) as a leeway to address the challenges of post-service years.

She said that the camp had successfully registered 997 corps members, comprising 477 males and 520 females, before the close of registration at midnight on Sunday.

“The Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme is the brainchild of the scheme.

“It is intended to provide a veritable platform upon which the post-service challenges of unemployment can be addressed.

“I will like to reiterate that orientation course is meant to instil in you the spirit of perseverance, resilience and build your capacity to overcome the challenges of the service year and beyond,’’ Ekwe said.

She commended Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom for his commitment toward the welfare of corps members deployed to the state.

The state coordinator also lauded the state government over the resumption of work on all uncompleted projects in the camp.
