NYSC shelves biometric clearance, CDS amid planned protest

By Sodiq Adelakun

The National Youth Service Corps has suspended biometric clearance and Community Development Services for corps members nationwide due to a planned protest scheduled to hold from August 1-10, 2024.

In a memo sent to State Coordinators, Local Government Inspectors, and Zonal Inspectors, the corps noted that this was necessary to prevent corps members from participating in any form of protest that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.

Corps members have been directed not to wear their uniforms for any reason this week, and CDS and clearance activities have been put on hold until further notice.

The NYSC has emphasised its stance on promoting unity and will not tolerate any corps member participating in any form of protest.

The planned protest is a response to the current economic hardship in the country, with Nigerians voicing their concerns over high costs of food items, transportation, and other issues.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to shelve the plan, promising to address their concerns.
