The Zamfara Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Alhaji Abdusalam Alhassan, has commended a corps member, Mr Tashi David, for renovating four toilets in a school.
David, from Nasarawa State, renovated a block of four toilets at Government Girls’ Day Secondary School, Janyau in Gusau Local Government Area.
A graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Jos, David executed the project under his Community Development Service (CDS) initiatives.
At a ceremony to hand over the project on Tuesday, the Coordinator highlighted the role of corps members as change agents in their host communities.
Alhassan described the CDS as a key component of the one year mandatory service which provides an avenue for corps members to support their host communities in addressing their needs.
“I commend this corps member for his efforts and dedication in carrying out this laudable project.
“This is a welcome development; it is good to have functional toilets in a female school environment,” he said.
He called on the principal of the school and community leader of Janyau to ensure the maintenance of the facility for the benefit of all.
In his remarks, the Principal of the school, Hajiya Sa’adatu Almajir, described the project as “very important to the school.”
“We appreciate the corps member for mobilising resources to carry out this laudable project,” the Principal said.
According to her, the toilet facility was built in 2012 and has been dilapidated for about six years.
Malam Hamidu Magaji, the leader of the Janyau community, in a remark, appreciated David for adding value to the school and the host community.
He prayed to God to reward him for his noble act.
Earlier, David had said that he was moved to carry out the project when he visited the school for a sensitisation programme.
