A Principal Technologist, Mr Ifeanyi Nwaji, has emerged the Chairman, National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, (MOUAU) Chapter.
Nwaji, who works in MOUAU’s Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, polled 122 votes in an election to clinch the position.
He defeated the incumbent, Mr Michael Okon, who got eight votes in the election conducted at the university’s premises on Friday.
In his acceptance speech, Nwaji assured all the contestants that his victory was theirs also.
He called on them to join hands with the new executives to build the NAAT of their dream in the university.
Nwaji, a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, expressed gratitude to God for the victory.
He praised the National President of NAAT, Mr Ibeji Nwokoma, who was represented at the election, for maturity and deep understanding of the association’s constitution.
He said that Nwokeoma’s administration provided a level playing ground for all the contestants.
Nwaji thanked the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe, for ensuring a conducive environment for the conduct of the election.
He thanked voters for confidence reposed on him, and assured them that he would not take it for granted.
Reports state that the other elected officers are Mr Clement Ifenkwe, Secretary; Mr Osemedua Yadi-Okafor, Assistant Secretary; and Nnamdi Okenwa, Financial Secretary.
