NSF: Ogun basketball team defeats Delta 65-57, qualifies for the semi-final

Team Ogun on Saturday defeated Team Delta 65-57 to qualify for the semi-finals of the basketball event at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged ‘Gateway Games 2024’.

The Ogun team coach, Babatunde Adelanwa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after the match that it was a tough game but appreciated God for the victory.

“We came out of the group game; we won the quarter-finals, and now we are in the semi-final.

“We are not going to rush ourselves; we will remain focused and determined so that we can get to the goal we set for ourselves, which is to win gold.

“We lost the first game in our preliminary games, and ever since then, there has always been an improvement in our game. We will keep improving till we get to the final,” he said.

Meanwhile, the head coach of the Delta Basketball Team, Godwin Peter, has expressed displeasure over officiating.

“It was a tough match, though; one or two calls were made that went against. The Ogun team plays physical basketball; my team does not .

“The referees are seeing those physicalities, but they are not calling. I am not saying that the team is bad, but I believe in fair play.

“The officiating in the basketball competition so far has been terrible.

‘We are going back to prepare for the next festival in Enugu; we will come out stronger,” he said.

Peter, however, applauded the facilities put together for the festival.
