NSCDC retrieves two bodies from pond in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa has reported recovering the bodies of two men from a pond in Birninkudu Local Government Area. ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, the command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday in Dutse that the victims, Abubakar Alhaji, 20, and Abubakar Abdullahi, 25, drowned while crossing the pond on their way to a market in Waza village.

The incident occurred on Monday around 11:00 AM. The NSCDC Divisional Officer for Birninkudu, CSC Muhammad Garba, confirmed that a distress call was received from the community at approximately 11:30 AM. NSCDC personnel, along with divisional disaster management officers, were deployed for the rescue operation.

With community assistance, the bodies were recovered after about 48 minutes of searching. The remains were taken to Waza health facility and have since been handed over to their families for burial according to Islamic rites.

NSCDC Commandant Mr. Muhammad Danjuma extended his condolences to the families and advised parents to be vigilant over their children during the rainy season due to the increased risk from flooded ponds and rivers.
