The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has directed the deployment of 4,000 personnel across various parts of the FCT ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi.
According to the statement, the deployment aims to safeguard lives and property, as well as protect critical national assets and infrastructure in the FCT and its surrounding areas before, during, and after the festivities.
The personnel, drawn from specialised units such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adkasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Unit, and Counter-Terrorism Unit, will be stationed in strategic locations.
A significant number of officers will be assigned to vulnerable locations and potential targets, including prayer grounds, shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, the City Gate, the Three Arms Zone, government buildings, diplomatic premises, and other critical national assets.
To enhance preparedness and prevent unforeseen security threats, undercover personnel have already been deployed to conduct covert surveillance operations. Additionally, security operatives will monitor high-risk areas, including abandoned and uncompleted buildings that may serve as hideouts for criminals.
Commandant Odumosu has instructed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure their respective jurisdictions remain fully secure, with a visible security presence to deter any potential threats.
“Every officer must be fully committed to this operation. I will not tolerate any security lapses—ensure personnel are deployed effectively,” he warned.
He also urged officers to conduct themselves professionally, work in collaboration with other security agencies, adhere strictly to rules of engagement, and avoid any form of intimidation, harassment, or accidental discharge.
Reassuring FCT residents of their safety, Odumosu stated that the NSCDC is fully committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure celebration before, during, and after the festivities.
The Commandant encouraged FCT residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, individuals, or groups to the nearest security agency.
“My officers are fully prepared to guarantee a peaceful celebration. However, security is a shared responsibility, and I urge all residents to play their part by staying alert and proactive,” he stated.
He further warned criminals and vandals to steer clear of critical national assets and infrastructure, emphasising that NSCDC’s undercover operatives are strategically positioned across the capital and will not hesitate to apprehend and prosecute offenders.
