NSCDC detains 81-year-old man and two others for sexually assaulting a minor in Kwara
The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three individuals, including an 81-year-old man named Adeleke Oke, along with Sikiru Lawal, 37, and Moshood Ayinde, 37, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Offa, Kwara State.
According to a statement released on Thursday by NSCDC Public Relations Officer Ayoola Michael, the arrests occurred on Sunday following a report made by the victim’s father. The case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the NSCDC for further investigation.
The statement detailed that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects engaged in sexual acts with the minor on multiple occasions and threatened her to keep quiet about the abuse. A subsequent medical examination confirmed that the victim’s hymen was ruptured, indicating repeated sexual penetration.
The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime and are expected to face prosecution in court. Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, the State Commandant of NSCDC, strongly condemned the reprehensible act and urged the public to support the Corps in its efforts to tackle sexual offenses such as defilement and rape.
