The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, has deployed 1,800 personnel for the upcoming general elections.
This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Efosa Ogbebor, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, Mr Samuel Dan, the State Commandant of the corps said that the figure comprises personnel from tactical, zonal and National Headquarters of the corps.
Dan charged them to comply with rules and regulations guiding election security.
“Be apolitical and ensure that you maintain the corps’ mandate of protecting lives and properties vis-a-vis Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.”
He added that their task involved the protection of the electorate, INEC officials and materials across the state.
The commandant warned them against any act that would distract them from their duties, adding that the personnel should work with the police and other sister agencies.
“Be very cautious against being lured by politicians with all forms of gratifications, both in cash and kind, be wary of it.
“Dress neatly and smartly at all time as ambassadors of the corps”, the commandant said.
Dan urged politicians and other stakeholders to play the game by the rules and contribute to ensuring free, fair and credible elections in Edo.
