The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra Command has announced the deployment of 1,190 personnel to safeguard government infrastructure ahead of the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1.
State Commandant Mr. Olatunde Maku, speaking in Awka on Monday through the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Edwin Okadigbo, stated that the deployment follows an order from NSCDC Commandant-General Dr. Ahmed Audi. This measure aims to protect critical national assets and maintain order during and after the planned protest.
Maku detailed that 350 personnel are assigned to manage anti-sit-at-home order operations, while 840 are tasked with preventing violence, lawlessness, and vandalism.
He emphasized that the NSCDC will actively counter any disruptive activities and protect both residents and national assets. While acknowledging citizens’ right to protest, Maku urged organizers to adhere to legal guidelines and warned that illegal actions or disruptions, particularly at critical facilities, will face severe consequences.
