The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested four suspected vandals in the Kwali area council.
The Command’s spokesman, Samuel Idoko, announced this in a statement on Thursday.
He disclosed that one suspect was caught in the act of removing an armoured cable at the National Mathematical Centre (NMC). This arrest led to the capture of three additional suspects.
Idoko explained that the suspect’s confession during interrogation led to the recovery of more stolen cables from a market where they had been taken for sale.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 35 years, will be prosecuted in accordance with Section 3 of the NSCDC Act, which empowers the Corps to arrest, detain, and prosecute in the name of the Attorney General of the Federation.
In another development, the Anti-Vandal Unit of the Command recovered an AK-47 rifle without a magazine on a farm in Abaji during a patrol. The farm owner discovered the rifle in his maize field and alerted the patrolling officers. The rifle has been secured at the Command’s headquarters for further investigation.
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, praised the anti-vandal team for their dedication to protecting the country’s critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety of FCT residents. He urged the team to continue their efforts and make more arrests to deter vandalism.
Dr. Odumosu also commended the farm owner for promptly reporting the discovery of the rifle to the authorities, urging all citizens to emulate this patriotic spirit by reporting any suspicious activities in their communities to the nearest security agencies.
