NSCDC arrests five phone thieves in Kano
Five suspected phone thieves have been arrested in Kano by the operatives of the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
Two persons said to be buyers of the stolen phones are currently on the trail by the command.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, in a statement on Wednesday, explained that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday in the Sabon Gari area of the Fagge Local Government Area of the state.
He gave the names of the suspects as Faisal Usman, 28, Mansur Isa, 38, Abdullahi Bashir, 25, Ahmed Ibrahim, 21, as well as Zulkifil Bello, 25.
The statement explained, “They used to operate and engage in the dastardly act around Sabon Gari, the Fagge Local Government Area where they snatch handsets belonging to innocent people.”
The spokesman stated that men of the Corps’ Intelligence and Investigation Department were on the trail of their accomplices, Sunday and Abdullahi, whom they used to sell the phones and sim cards to.
The command, according to the statement, also restated its commitment to sustaining the fight and freeing the state from any form of criminality.
It lamented that recently, cases of phone snatching in the Kano metropolitan area have been increasing and assured of its determination to curb the trend.
It explained that on Tuesday, some angry residents set ablaze a tricycle with which two suspected phone thieves were alleged to have snatched a phone from a passenger while the suspects were beaten to a state of coma.
