NSCDC arrests 20 manhole thieves in FCT

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, recently apprehended and publicly displayed 20 individuals accused of stealing manholes and damaging government property across different areas in the FCT.

NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, announced on Monday that the Corps would not tolerate the actions of scavengers in the state’s city center any longer.

The NSCDC’s FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, expressed his concern over the increasing incidents of theft and vandalism in the region.

He emphasised that such criminal activities not only cause financial losses to the government but also pose serious risks to the safety and well-being of the public. As a result, the Corps has taken a firm stance against these actions and is determined to put an end to them.

The 20 suspects were apprehended by the NSCDC and are believed to be involved in the theft of manholes and the destruction of government property. These individuals were paraded publicly to serve as a deterrent to others who may be contemplating engaging in similar criminal activities.

The NSCDC hopes that this display will send a strong message that such actions will not be tolerated and will face severe consequences.The NSCDC has been working tirelessly to combat theft and vandalism in the FCT.

The Corps is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the public and will continue to take proactive measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Odumosu stated, “To counteract the escalating instances of theft and vandalism that have been adversely impacting the FCT Metropolis, the Command took an active approach.

“In the course of these patrols, we successfully arrested 20 scavengers and miscreants within the stipulated time frame. The arrested suspects underwent comprehensive interview and profiling processes.

“Subsequently, they will be handed over to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board for prosecution and I am sure the law will take its original course.”

The commandant also warned that criminal behaviours would no longer be tolerated within FCT, noting that “The proactive strategy we have embraced underscores the unswerving commitment of the government to address the concerns of its citizens.

“We are steadfastly dedicated to safeguarding the integrity of critical national assets and infrastructure throughout the FCT Metropolis.”

Twenty individuals were paraded as suspects at the FCT command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Monday.

Among them were John Ahmed, a 46-year-old man from Lafia LGA in Nassarawa State; Abba Musa, a 26-year-old man from Dala LGA in Kano State; Jack Ikekwe, a 25-year-old man from Kalabari LGA in Rivers State; Kabir Dauda Ummar, a 25-year-old man from Gwale LGA in Kano State; Peter Eseh James, a 39-year-old man from Ado LGA in Benue State; and Monday Magaji, a 25-year-old man from Kajuru LGA in Kaduna State.

The other suspects included Ukechukwu Ifeanyi, a 42-year-old man from Umupla LGA in Abia State; Anthony Obey, a 29-year-old man from Irruam LGA in Cross River State; Habibu Abubakar, a 25-year-old man from Kano State; Flavour Amos, a 43-year-old man from Plateau State; Collins Erriom, a 24-year-old man from Boki LGA in Cross River State; Abdulrazk Lawal, an 18-year-old man from Matangara LGA in Kastina State; and Enwa Richard Ineji, a 22-year-old man from Yala LGA in Cross River State.

Also among the suspects were Emeka Charles, a 21-year-old man from Abi LGA in Cross River State; Humphrey James, a 25-year-old man from Boki LGA in Cross River State; Ibrahim Umar, a 20-year-old man from Taronie LGA in Kano State; Iheancho Godfrey, a 30-year-old man from Atta LGA in Imo State; Aliyu Abdullahi, a 16-year-old boy from Udili LGA in Kano State; and Saniyu Abubakar, a 21-year-old man from Nasarawa LGA in Kano State.

These individuals were paraded as suspects in an ongoing investigation.
