Notorious A’Ibom kidnap kingpin killed by police

On Thursday, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced the neutralization of Ubong Effiong Archibong, also known as ‘Condiment,’ a notorious leader of the Bling Bling Marine Strike Force. The announcement, made by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, was detailed in a statement issued in Uyo, the state capital, and titled “Notorious Kidnap Kingpin/Sea Pirate Meets Waterloo.”

According to the statement, Archibong was killed during a confrontation with police operatives at his hideout in the Uyanga Community of Cross River State. During the encounter, a G3 rifle and ammunition were seized from him.

The suspect was allegedly behind several high-profile criminal activities, including the abduction of High Court Judge Joy Unwana and the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet, last year. He was also linked to the brutal killing of the CEO of Emem and Sons Nig. Ltd. and the kidnapping of his sales representative and Pharmacist Joemel.

Additional crimes attributed to Archibong include the abduction of Mr. Brown, CEO of Mingles Hotel.

The statement revealed that Archibong’s demise occurred on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, following a gunfight with police operatives. His body has been recovered and taken to the morgue, and efforts are underway to apprehend other members of his gang.
