NOSDRA urges new UNILORIN students to be good ambassadors

A senior officer of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Mr Abdulkadir Olayinka, has urged newly admitted students of University of Ilorin to be good ambassadors of their families.

Olayinka gave the advice on Monday, while speaking at the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) Fresher’s Orientation and Oratory Contest held at the faculty’s lecture theatre.

Abdulkadir, a guest speaker at the event also admonish them not to forget their primary responsibilities on campus to excel in their studies.

He disclosed that new students of 100 levels, popularly referred to as “freshers”, needed to understand their purposes of being in the university and after graduation contribute their knowledge and proffer solutions to the societal challenges.

“I urge you to take your academic work very seriously, attend lectures regularly and keep off from bad companies to become good ambassadors of your various families after graduation,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Oladipupo Habeeb, the President of the Faculty Students’ Association, UNILORIN said the occasion was a yearly event established by his predecessors to welcome new students to the university and to inculcate in them the right culture.

“This year’s occasion, apart from the usual activities, also came with educative competitions to attract the students to good nature of the University of Ilorin.”

Also speaking, Miss Erimako, a 200 level student of the Department of Mass Communication, urged the students to take care of their mental health and work out how to juggle their social life with their academic life as advised by the guest speaker.

Highlights of the event include, Fresher’s Oratory Contest won by Ogunyemi Ayomide of the Department of Computer Science with a cash prize of N10, 000.

Agboola Olabode, who emerged winner from the Department of Mass Communication, was awarded a cash prize of N6, 000 and a VIP ticket to the faculty’s picnic.
