No Woman, No Nation hosts historic fundraising event in Oyo
Women representation in Nigerian politics has been on a decline since 2011. Over the years, there has been meagre representation in both the Federal and State House of Assemblies. This under representation attributes to factors such as stereotypes, patriarchal social structure and immense poverty among women and youths.
However, No Woman, No Nation (The Voice), a non governmental organisation which focuses on engaging women and youth in the Nigerian politics, providing empowerment for women, vocational training, scholarship to secondary school students, support to disabilities has pledged to reposition the vulnerable and the marginalised to their rightful place in the Nigerian Society.
At its award and fundraising event organised recently in Mapo Hall, the Outgoing Oyo State Director of the Charity run, Alhaja Abegbo Lawal in her remarks underscores the unwavering commitment of the group towards the advancement of women and youths in the society.
According to her No woman, No Nation accommodates all ethnic groups in the country and was initiated to help resolve challenges which the vulnerable and the marginalised face in the society.
“We’ve decided to keep organising events that will get the women and youths involved in the political activities in the country. We want to reposition the vulnerable and help them realise their full potentials.
One of the award recipients, Oba Awoniran Ojebode Anifalaje III of Oyo State said he was happy over the honour bestowed upon to him and pledged continual support towards helping the women and youths.
Another recipient, Erelu of iddo who is a matron, Hon Funke Olayanju attested that she is proud of being a woman and would always support projects, activities that fosters the growth of women in the Society.
The Incoming State Director, Revd Mrs Victor Tade also known as Mama Empowerment revealed that she plans to move No Woman, No Nation to greater heights. “My objective is to create jobs, train the women and youths who are always at a disadvantage in Nigeria. In my tenure, I would ensure that these women and youths are gainfully employed in diverse sectors especially with the support of the current President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has promised thirty five percent representation for women in his government.
“I will remain dedicated to investing in women and youths and my tenure will be driven by a vision of innovation and sustainability.
