No player would reject a chance to learn from Mourinho — Victor Osimhen hails highly rated Portuguese tactician
Victor Osimhen, Nap oli talisman has recalled a discussion he had with Jose Mourinho after Napoli’s victory at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma where he scored a belter as they chase the Serie A title after 33 years since the last time the team won it.
In a throwback of the details of the chat with the Roma boss, the Nigerian striker stated that the Portuguese tactician thought he had dived in one of the foul calls made by the referee but it wasn’t simulation as he had been stepped on by the opposition team defender.
“After someone stepped on my wrist and peeled it, Mourinho came to me and said: ‘Nice goal, but don’t do it, don’t try to dive. Keep it up, you’re on the right track. I replied I don’t do simulations, and that I had been pushed, showing him my hand and he said: ‘Go ahead.”
“Hearing this kind of compliment from Mourinho, right in the middle of the match, is an incredible feeling for me. Trust me, it’s an amazing feeling.
“I think for any aspiring striker, especially when you’re young if you get the opportunity to play with Mourinho,” he added.
“I think it’s a great honour because he has shaped many world-class strikers. Didier Drogba played under him and we know what kind of beast he turned him into. And he delivered for him.”
The highly sought forward has been of interest to so many European giants following his exploits with Napoli but neither of them has made any concrete offer with the likelihood of continuing in Italy growing by the day.
