No career progression course, no promotion, NSCDC tells personnel
Dr Ahmed Audi, Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says personnel will no longer be promoted without undergoing career progression courses.
Audi said this on Monday in Abuja at the maiden meeting of a five-day training for selected personnel, on enhancing development through optimised and harmonised curriculum.
He said that from 2024, career progression courses will be a criteria for the promotion of officers and men of the Corps.
“If you fail three times you will be withdrawn from the service and this is to take effect from next year.
“It is to instill disciple and focus as you must conduct yourselves according to the rule of law, which involves obeying rules and regulations of the service,” he said.
He also said that the training will marshal out measures to combat the current security crisis Nigeria is faced with.
“This workshop is apt, germane and central to the development of this service, and we all know training brings about productivity in service.
“Discipline starts from training so we must leverage on this to inculcate discipline in personnel,” he said.
The NSCDC boss said that the NSCDC training schools curriculum had been standardized to foster efficiency in operations.
Audi advised the personnel to concentrate on the training, and share what they learnt to others in state commands.
A representative of Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung in Nigeria, Mrs Marija Peran said that the training was in line with the priorities set out by the new government.
Peran said that the workshop involved pre-testing of the recently enhanced curricular on optimisation and harmonisation for administrators and training institutions and colleges in Nigeria.
She said that the NSCDC was the first to test the manuals, which were developed over the years.
“The manuals differ from agencies to agencies but the area of focus in this curriculum is a common ground for all agencies.
“In your state commands guide colleagues on this curriculum’s five subject matters that you will be taught as this is why you are participants of this training,” she said.
According to her, the training displays the willingness of the Corps to promote inter-agency cooperation and general improvement of security in the country.
“No security agency can do this alone, so it is important to utilize the existing synergies between security agencies.
“The security challenges in the country are complex so there is need to work together better and find ways to have more impact in working together,” she said.
