NNPC creating measures to tighten Nigeria’s energy security — DPR

The Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Sarki Auwalu has said from every indication the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has taken commendable steps to boost the country’s energy security.

Auwalu, therefore commended achievements of the Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Mele Kyari since he took over the mantle of leadership in 2019.

Auwalu said this when Kyari went on a courtesy visit to DPR on Tuesday in Abuja.

The GMD was accompanied on the visit by the NNPC Group Executive Director, Gas and power Mr. Abdulkabir Ahmed; GED Finance and Account Umar Ajiya; Group General Manager, NAPIMS, Bala Wunti; and the GGM Group Public Affairs, Garba-deen Mohammed.

Auwalu said that within the short time that the GMD has presided over the affairs of the NNPC, the oil and gas industry has recorded many landmark achievements.

These achievements, according to him, will not only go down in history but would also be engraved “on stone and we will never forget it.”

Given some of the giant strides that the Corporation has recorded under the leadership of the GMD, Auwalu said that that Kyari has been able to guarantee energy security for Nigeria by ensuring that the Train 7 project is not only signed but Final Investment Decision was taken.

He also said that the fortunes of the NNPC have been turned around from a corporation that has consistently been making losses to one that posted its first profit of N287bn in its 44-year history.

He said, “Whatever I’m going to say in my remarks is right and obvious. I will like to first congratulate Nigerians for having somebody leading the biggest Corporation in Nigeria.

“The GMD within the time he took over NNPC has created a lot of landmarks and things which history will not only put them on stone, but we will never forget it.

“I can also say with ultimate commitment today in the whole world after 44 years, that our great NNPC will not only be making profit but that profit is declared.

“We are so proud of this and we put our heads very high in the comity of nations that our biggest Corporation in Nigeria is no longer the way it’s being seeing because we have a man that has come to say there is no business as usual but business unusual.

“The GMD is here to create security of energy for this nation. The man sitting down here is about to eliminate poverty in this nation. His ability to have Energy security, he ensured that our train 7 is signed and FID was taken.

“Also the GMD is the only GMD that ensures that across Nigeria, gas is everywhere by ensuring that the OB3 which remain the connection and enables gas to reach every corner through the East-West pipeline (OB3), trans-Niger pipeline and above all the Ajaokuta-kaduna-Kano.”
