The Nigerian National Bureau, in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), celebrates her 42nd anniversary of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme highlighting its enhanced regional integration.

Since its establishment on May 29, 1982, the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme has been vital in facilitating the movement of people and goods across ECOWAS member states. The scheme offers compensation for road accident victims, covering bodily injury, death, and material damage within the region. This initiative provides essential protection for individuals and businesses, promoting the free movement of goods and services.

The Secretary General/CEO of the Nigerian National Bureau, ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, Raphael Abiiba, in a statement acknowledged that it’s a significant milestone, which marks over four decades of successful implementation and operation of the scheme and its contributions to regional cooperation and integration.

However, the Chairman of the Board of Directors/Management Committee, Kunle Ahmed, emphasized the Nigerian National Bureau’s leading role in ensuring the scheme’s effective administration. He credited the board’s dedication and the management team’s efforts for the scheme’s impressive growth over the years.

He highlighted that the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme has not only driven economic development but has also strengthened regional solidarity and cooperation among member states. It continues to promote cross-border trade, facilitate movement, and create opportunities for businesses and individuals.

In his words, “As we celebrate this momentous occasion, the Nigerian National Bureau reiterates its commitment to further enhancing the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme. Through continuous innovation and collaboration with stakeholders, we aim to address emerging challenges and provide even better services to our esteemed policyholders.

On behalf of the board and the entire management team, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, including member states, insurance companies, policyholders, and partners, for their unwavering support and trust throughout the journey.

As we look ahead to the future, the Nigerian National Bureau remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen regional integration, promote economic growth, and ensure the welfare and protection of all individuals and businesses within the ECOWAS region.”
