The FCT Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the issues leading to the nationwide protest.
Dr. Charles Ugwuanyi, the Chairman of the association, made this appeal during an interview on Monday.
He highlighted that the primary cause of the protest is hunger, exacerbated by the rising cost of food, which is severely affecting Nigerians.
“We are calling on the president to make the economy more favorable so Nigerians can afford to put food on their tables,” Ugwuanyi said.
He also urged Tinubu to review the country’s security situation, noting that it has significantly impacted various aspects of life.
“Recently, President Tinubu’s efforts to tackle the numerous challenges facing the country have imposed severe hardships on Nigerians. Despite his efforts, hunger and unbearable conditions persist in many areas, fueling public discontent.
“The dire economic situation has led many to see protests as a necessary outlet for their frustrations, which also threatens the nation’s security,” he added.
Ugwuanyi emphasized that Nigerians are hungry and called on the government to take responsibility and address the issue.
“The government must tackle the root cause of hunger and the high cost of food. The president should address these challenges and other economic issues, such as the high cost of fuel, which is causing pain for the people,” Ugwuanyi said.
