NMA calls for release of Magaji Erubu of Ilorin Emirate

The Kwara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association has called for the release of its member, Dr Zubair Erubu, who was abducted on Thursday night at his farmhouse.

It was reported that Dr Erubu was abducted on his way home to Ago-Oja, in the Asa Local Government Area of the state.

The kidnappers have demanded N60 million ransom before they release the physician.

The NMA, in a statement issued on Monday by its Chairman, Prof. Baba Issa, appealed to the Kwara State Government and the security agencies to work individually and collectively to ensure the safe release of Erubu to his family.

The association noted that the unconditional release of Dr Erubu to his family is the best thing to pay back a man who has devoted all his life, so far, to the service of humanity.

Part of the statement read: “Dr Erubu practices Medicine with diligence and most of his practices at his private Fadima Clinic.

“He’s a humanitarian, who renders medical services to the indigents at his farmhouse without receiving anything.

“Erubu is dedicated to helping the poor and the helpless people in the society.

“It is disheartening that somebody who has consecrated his life to helping others is the same that is now being hunted, abducted and incarcerated by these bandits.”

The NMA leaders also urged the security agencies to ensure the safety of other medical doctors and healthcare professionals working in the state, adding that the unfavourable security environment is one of the reasons for the exodus of health professionals out of Nigeria.

“The government needs to put adequate measures in place to protect those that have decided to stay in the country,” the statement added.
