The Director General of National Information technology development Agency(NITDA), Mr Kashifu Abdullahi has presented ICT Policy document to Gombe State government at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja .
This is to ensure that Information Communication Technology, ICT, is widely utilized as a key enabler for development in every sector in Nigeria.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr Kashifu said that it is tradition every year to present the current Federal government ICT policy document to all state governments in order to enable them diversify their economy, moving from natural and resourced-based economy to a knowledge-based and ICT driven one.
The director general stated that ICT has become a household knowledge everyone must have and it must penetrate to the grassroot.
Mr Abdullahi further noted that the Agency has created several IT hubs in Gombe and hoped that this ICT policy will aid in facilitating more ICT hubs to optimize potentials in ICT.
The policy document was received by the commissioner of science and Technology Gombe state, Dr. Aishatu Usman Maigari, who led her team on a state visit to NITDA.
Dr Aishatu Maigari while speaking on behalf of the delegate from Gombe state, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, expressed gratitude for the opportunity given by NITDA to have the ICT policy document.
Aishatu emphasized that the state Governor, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, had promised to ensure that more than 20% of the state budget is focused on ICT initiatives.
Mrs Maigari Further disclosed that the state government hope to fast track the approval and to begin plans to replicate NITDA’s activities in the state under the Gombe State information Technology Agency(GITDA).
