NITDA, MTN Foundation to establish joint committee to boost digital literacy
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the MTN Foundation are set to establish a joint committee to drive digital literacy and capacity-building initiatives across Nigeria.
This collaboration was announced during a courtesy visit by an MTN Foundation delegation, led by Odunayo Sanya, to NITDA’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General and CEO of NITDA, underscored the necessity of collaboration in advancing digital literacy and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of fostering industrialisation to build a robust and diverse economy.
He highlighted NITDA’s DL4ALL initiative, which aims to achieve 95% digital literacy across Nigeria by 2027.
“This aligns with the Agency’s strategic objective of promoting digital knowledge and nurturing talent,” he stated.
Inuwa further elaborated on NITDA’s commitment to designing a digital literacy framework in accordance with UNESCO and DigiCom standards. He added that the Agency is working alongside stakeholders to develop a three-stage curriculum tailored for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, with an emphasis on practical skills rather than merely acquiring certificates.
The MTN Foundation shares similar objectives and currently provides online training courses, offering access to over 4,000 learning programmes. So far, 2,000 young Nigerians have enrolled in these courses.
Speaking on the partnership, Odunayo Sanya praised NITDA’s efforts in championing digital education and extended an invitation to the Agency to participate in the official launch of the MTN Foundation Academy platform on April 17th.
