NITDA, MTN Foundation collaborate to boost digital literacy
In a bid to drive economic reform and ensure sustainable, inclusive growth, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, has advocated for a strategic partnership between NITDA and the MTN Foundation to enhance digital literacy and skills development across Nigeria.
Inuwa made this appeal during a courtesy visit by an MTN Foundation delegation, led by Odunayo Sanya, to the agency’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
The Director-General underscored the significance of collaboration in advancing digital education and reinforcing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of industrialisation, which aims to create a resilient and diversified economy.
He pointed out that NITDA’s “Digital Literacy for All” (DL4ALL) initiative is designed to achieve 95% digital literacy nationwide by 2027.
“This aligns with the agency’s strategic goal of expanding digital education and nurturing technological talent,” he remarked.
Inuwa also reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to developing a digital literacy framework that adheres to UNESCO and DigiCom standards. He explained that the agency is collaborating with stakeholders to create a three-phase curriculum tailored for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, with a particular focus on prioritising practical skills over academic qualifications.
Similarly, the MTN Foundation, which shares a commitment to digital education, currently provides online courses covering over 4,000 topics, with 2,000 young Nigerians already enrolled.
Mr Sanya applauded NITDA’s initiatives and extended an invitation to the agency to participate in the official launch of MTN’s academy platform on 17 April 2025.
Both organisations have agreed to establish a joint committee to effectively implement their shared vision. This collaborative effort is expected to accelerate digital literacy and skill development in Nigeria, aligning with the nation’s broader economic and technological advancement agenda.
