President Nigerian Institute of Surveyors(NIS), Surv. Dr. Kayode Oluwamotemi has tasked newly inducted fellows and members of the Institution on professionalism, diligence and competence.

Dr. Oluwamotemi made this call recently at the NIS Fellows’ Investiture ceremony in Asaba.

The President stated that professionals in the sector should consistently seek to improve themselves for adequate competition.

According to him, “Exploring the open space of change to be able to identify, embrace and bring in greater values for the long term benefit of the profession and the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors.

“The current leadership of the Board of Fellows is working in sync with the leadership of the Institution and together, we hope to create the necessary environment for growth, peace and harmony within the profession. It is in the light of this fact that I call on all members of this great Institution to see one another as stakeholders by joining hands together to make the Institution great again. With the steadfast support and productive partnership, I am confident that we are well on our way towards actualising our set objectives of tapping out limitless potentials for the growth and development of this great Institution.

“Distinguished Fellows, we have experienced the highs and lows but we have always forged ahead the challenges notwithstanding. We have learnt that to make our mark in the Society and the World at large as a professional body, we must learn to embark on a journey of dedication, commitment, diligence, perseverance and patriotic vision.

“The realities of today continue to emphasise and celebrate the valued contribution of our profession to global development/construction efforts. The realities also inform us of the challenges of technology through all kinds of evolving innovations and systems. This must challenge us to continually strive to develop and improve our capacities and competencies through Continuing Professional Development to ensure sustainable relevance and competitiveness in our Industry and society at large. That is a charge I would want to give to all members and the New Fellows today.  As Fellows, we are not just leaders in the profession, we must be able to show capacity and knowledge but must also continue to encourage and facilitate growth through provision of mentorship to young professionals.

“Our Distinguished New Fellows and Honorary Fellows, I welcome you to the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors’ Board of Fellows. We look up to you to continue to provide leadership and sustain the good qualities and service that have brought you to this point today. I challenge you to be instruments in improving and perpetuating the positive gains we are already experiencing.  The future could be a lot better,” he stated.
