The Nigerian  Immigration Service (NIS) has received approval by the Federal Government to commence E-border patrol to ensure maximum security in the country.

This was disclosed by the Controller General, Mr Idris Isa Jere while he was briefing newsmen during his condolence visit to Jigawa state government.

During the visit, he paid homage to the Emir of Dutse and family of the officer,  Muhammad Abdullahi, who died in an encounter with suspected bandits in Maigatari Galadi road in the state, which is less than three kilometres to Niger republic.

Noting that the operation of e-border patrol will require more funding, he called on federal government to increase their annual budgetary allocation to enable them discharge their duty effectively.

At the same time, he appealed to the state government to complement the effort of federal government in the provision of patrol vehicles and other logistic support to immigration office, describing security as a collective responsibility of the three tiers of government and general public.

During the condolence visit, the CG donated the sum of over four million naira to the family of the slain officer and other two injured officers.

He said the commission is proud of the sacrifice made by Abdul, the two injured officers, and other members of the patrol team.

He said it is duty of immigration service to defend the territorial border of the country and ensure no miscreants, criminals or unlawful items are allowed to come in to the country.

He added that whoever died or sustained injury in the course of such duty did not die in vain.

Mr Jere expressed his happiness on how the two injured officers Abba Musa Kiyawa (DSI) and Zubairu Garba (AII) are responding to treatment and assured the commitment of the organisation on the security and welfare of its officers.
