NIPOST urged to revive use of traditional postal system

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has been charged to initiate public awareness programmes to re-awaken the use of the traditional postal system among Nigerians.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, gave the advice last Wednesday while receiving a six-man NIPOST team on a courtesy visit to the University.

The team comprised the State Postal Managers and Heads of Corporate Communications for Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland, Ajaero Emmanuel Esq.; Olajide Ajire; Osita Ogochukwu and Bola Ekeogu as well as the Head of Marketing (Lagos Mainland), Adedayo Rasaq and Post-Master, UNILAG Post Office, Ikpehae Debbie.

Prof. Atsenuwa who welcomed the team on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, stressed the need for NIPOST to adopt innovative ways such as rallies, school excursions and re-orientation and educational events to sensitise members of the public on its operations and services.

While appreciating the team, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor advised them to convey the University’s goodwill to the Post-Master General, with NIPOST, bearing in mind the long-term relationship between the two organisations.

He also affirmed that all the issues raised in the course of the visit would be conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor.

Speaking earlier, the State Postal Manager (Lagos Mainland), Mr. Ajire, conveyed the wishes of the Post-Master General of NIPOST to the university authorities.

He assured that agency is committed to providing top-notch services to members of the University community and general public through all its strategically positioned Post Offices including the one located within the Bookshop Building, UNILAG Main Campus, Akoka.

The courtesy visit came to a wrap with group photographs and an exchange of goodwill between the varsity and the NIPOST team.
