The Postmaster General (PMG) of the Federation/CEO of NIPOST, Dr Sunday Adepoju has unveiled the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Tower at the NIPOST headquarters in Abuja over the course of the weekend.

The PMG represented by the Director of Planning and Development, Dr Thomas Gaja, pointed that across the globe, “postage stamps are regarded as one of the most effective means to supply information about a country’s history.”

He noted that while rendering the service of goods and parcel delivery across the country, the commission is committed to celebrate and promote the history of Nigeria, thus the image of the prestigious Zuma Rock was embedded on the new National postal stamp.

Speaking, he explained that “Postage stamps are often described as miniature encyclopedia and living reminders of events. The aim of the joint stamp issue is to promote African heritage and events.”

PAPU, headquartered in Arusha, Tanzania is geared towards promoting African culture and history through the national stamps of member States. Therefore, the Nigerian version of the Stamp depicts the PAPU Tower situated in Arusha, and contrasted with the Zuma Rock, a National monument situated in Abuja, the country’s capital.

Adepoju described the PAPU tower as an iconic emblem/national natural artifact of member country choice in their respective homes.

He further enjoined them to unanimously incorporate into the design of the African joint stamp union and show their unwavering support to the project

To support the ongoing PAPU 17-story tower project, NIPOST announced its release of a single Postage Stamp in (N250) denomination with a surcharge value of N5.00.

Funmilayo Esiri, NIPOST General Manager, said that this would help generate revenue for the organization, adding that the N255 philately would last for just six months.

Adepoju promised that going forward, NIPOST would continuously document national posterity through the issuance of commemorative stamps.

The N255 single horizontal format stamps were designed and printed by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc.
