NIPCO targets delivery of 50 skids in 24 months

NIPCO Plc has revealed that it is targeting the delivery of 50 skids in 24 months to deepen penetration of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) in 20 million homes.

The company made this known via its Managing Director, Mr Suresh Kumar who spoke on the pathway to rural LPG penetration:Boosting usage,” at the 13th Nigeria Liquified Petroleum Gas Association conference in Abuja.

According to the NIPCO MD, the company has invested massively in the LPG value chain.

He revealed that NIPCO has played its part by deploying over 11,000 MT Coastal storage, over 100 Skids and bottling plants across Nigeria and over 125 LPG tankers for logistics.

Mr Suresh also said the company has donated gas accessories to  boost usage across the country.

Speaking on the usage of LPG in the country, Suresh said, “the rural population (% of the total population) in Nigeria was reported at 46.48 percent in 2022, according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources.

“About 90 percent of LPG usage is in the urban areas, with just 10 percent in the rural areas. Hence, to deepen LPG usage, the rural area penetration should be improved.”

He therefore called on the Federal Government and State Governments to help provide the basic infrastructure to rural consumers and work with Local governments of the concerned areas to help create awareness/sensitization.

Suresh also opined that Mobile filling of Cylinders through RMVs (Rural Mobile Vehicles) would boost the adoption of LPGs across the country.
