NIOMR, Fed. Lawmaker train constituents on fish farming 

…Training to grow Nigeria’s GDP, empower beneficiaries — Prof Sule

No fewer than 25 constituents from Andoni,Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency of Rivers State have been trained in fish farming by the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR) Lagos, courtesy of the lawmaker representing the area at the National Assembly, Hon. Inombek Abiante.

Addressing the participants during the 2-day enterpreneural training programme Friday at Ngo, the Headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Abiante charged the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the opportunity created by the training to better their lots.

Represented by Councillor Ward 1,Ngo in Andoni Local Government Area,Hon. Timothy John Bibor, the Federal lawmaker said having recognized the main occupation of his people, which is fishing, he deemed it necessary to attract the fish farming training to them.

According to him, it is a rare privilege to be selected out of the teeming population to be part of the entrepreneurial training programme, hence the need to maximize the opportunity to improve their economic standard in the society.

“You’re privileged to have been selected for this training,among the lot, so anything short of maximizing this rare opportunity won’t augur well for you, constituency and even me as the facilitator of the program,” Abiante said.

He used the opportunity to remind the people of the ongoing online voter registration exercise in the country, which he said will enable them get more wards in the area.

In an interview with journalists at the event, the Executive Director of the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Lagos, Prof(Capt) Abiodun Sule said the essence of the training was to empower youths, men and women on fish farming.

He pointed out that the gesture was part of the entrepreneurial training programme organized by the Federal Governnment through the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Lagos to empower the people across 11 federal constituencies in Nigeria. He noted that the Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro training programme was facilitated by the Constituency’s Representative, Hon. Inombek Abiante.

Prof Sule who spoke through Mr Ayaobu Cookey, the Chief Research Officer of the Institute, said the training will not only empower the people, but is capable of growing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria.

“The aim of the entrepreneurial training programme is to empower the youths,men and women in fish farming. It’s also meant to grow the GDP of Nigeria. It will equally add value to the finances of the beneficiaries.The programme would not have been possible without the lawmaker representing Andoni,Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Abiante,” Prof Sule said.

In a chat with some of the participants,  they expressed gratitude to their representative at the National Assembly, Hon. Abiante for the kind gesture and prayed that God will continue to strengthen him in his political career.

Highlight of the event was presentation of certificates to participants.
