A devastating clash between Fulani herdsmen and Hausa farmers in Jigawa State has left nine people feared dead and four others seriously injured.
The violence erupted in Gululu village, Miga Local Government Area, after a group of suspected Fulani miscreants broke into a shop and stole food items, including hibiscus.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the villagers, mostly Hausa, traced the footprints of the thieves to a Fulani settlement camp in Yankunama village, Jahun Local Government Area.
However, upon arrival, the Fulani herdsmen allegedly attacked the villagers with bows and arrows, injuring four people.
The situation quickly escalated, with the villagers retaliating and setting houses ablaze in various locations within Miga and Jahun LGAs.
The Jigawa State Police Command swiftly responded to the incident, dispatching a team of officers to restore peace and order.
Our correspondent reports that nine bodies were recovered from the scene, and the corpses were taken to Jahun and Miga Hospitals, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed their deaths.
The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, visited the scene of the crime, accompanied by senior officers.
The executive subsequently convened a stakeholder meeting, attended by the Jigawa State Speaker, chairmen of the two LGAs, district heads, Miyetti Allah leadership, and vigilantes.
The meeting focused Ondo maintaining law and order, avoiding violence, propaganda, and reprisal attacks.
