The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Isa Pantami has met with the leadership of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) workers, approved special overtime allowance payment.
Nigerian NewsDirect learnt from the meeting which was held behind closed doors.
The issues discussed, the new salary scale of the workers, promotion, and payment of Hazard allowance.
Pantami asked the commission to set up a committee that will facilitate the payment of workers special salaries and allowances.
Meanwhile, in a statement tweeted via the official handle of Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, the Minister Dr Isa Pantami said the federal government is committed to ensuring that NIMC is self reliance.
He said, “My strategic vision for NIMC is to ensure the commission is self-reliant & generates the revenue it needs for a smooth operation without having to depend on the federal government for budgetary allocation.”
Speaking to the workers, Pantami said,
“NIMC is very important and key to the National development of Nigeria. I intend to use the opportunity as the supervising minister to take the commission to a greater height.”
The workers had issued a 21-day ultimatum for the Government to meet their demands and the deadline expires on Friday, January 29, 2021.
The workers had decried the lack of adequate computers at the Commission’s Headquarters and selected offices, as they insist it slows down the pace of work.
By implication NIMC’s workers appeal to the Federal Government seems to have received the required consideration.
