NiMet predicts three-day dust haze, cloudiness from Monday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted dust haze and cloudiness across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted dust haze for Monday in the northern region, with visibility expected to range from 1km to 3km.
It also warned of localised visibility of less than 1km throughout the forecast period.
“The North Central and inland cities of the South are expected to experience dust haze with visibility ranging from 2km to 5km for the duration of the forecast,” NiMet stated.
“A hazy atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected over the coastal parts of the country throughout the period,” it added.
On Tuesday, NiMet forecasted similar conditions, with dust haze in the northern region and visibility of 2km to 5km. Localised visibility of 1km or less is anticipated throughout the forecast period in the north.
In the North Central and inland cities of the South, dust haze with visibility of 2km to 5km is expected, while the coastal areas will remain hazy with occasional cloud cover.
For Wednesday, the forecast suggests that the northern region will experience dust haze with good visibility. The North Central and inland parts of the South will see dust haze with visibility ranging from 2km to 5km, while hazy conditions with patches of clouds are expected over the coastal regions.
NiMet urged the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles will be suspended in the air.
“People with respiratory conditions, including asthma, should take extra care under these weather conditions and adhere to safety advisories from relevant authorities,” it advised.
“Airline operators are advised to consult airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid in flight planning.”
The agency also recommended that residents stay informed by checking weather updates from NiMet, available on their website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
