NIMC DG accepts NewsDirect Award nomination
…Clears two years payment backlog owed FEPs
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Bisoye Coker-Odusote, has accepted her nomination for the prestigious NewsDirect Award.
This nomination comes ahead of the 14th Annual NewsDirect Anniversary and Awards Ceremony, which is set to take place on December 6, 2024, at the Oriental Hotel in Lekki, Lagos.
Coker-Odusote, a highly respected leader in Nigeria’s public service, has been recognised for her outstanding contributions to the development and successful implementation of Nigeria’s national identity management system.
Under her leadership, NIMC has made significant strides in advancing the nation’s digital identity infrastructure, playing a critical role in driving national development through enhanced service delivery and data security.
The NewsDirect Awards is well known for celebrating individuals and organisations that have made remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s growth, particularly in areas such as governance, public service, and economic development.
This year’s event will also feature other prominent figures from Nigeria’s public and private sectors, as well as international influencers.
With the theme “Achieving Economic Prosperity: The Role of Human Capacity Development, Fiscal Prudence, and Revenue Generation,” the awards ceremony will highlight the vital contributions of honorees in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
She was appointed as the Director-General (DG) and CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023 and confirmed in November 2023.
She previously served as the General Manager and CEO of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) and as Special Adviser on Technology to former Lagos Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
With a background in engineering, Coker-Odusote has worked in real estate, construction, oil and gas, finance, and media. She also founded The Bibi Coker Foundation, which provides education grants to women pursuing STEM degrees.
In the same vein, on Friday, she announced that NIMC has cleared two years outstanding payments due to its numerous Front End Partners (FEPs), which had for some years been a source of worry to succeeding managements of the Commission.
She highlighted that this was achieved through rigorous and painstaking efforts, which made the banks validate the FEPs before the eventual payment.
She also disclosed that the management in the last one year, embarked on revamping the operating infrastructure of the Commission, which saw the repair, upgrading of old and obsolete computer systems and the acquisition of new ones as well as training and retraining of the officers of the Commission across all levels
